What first 10 days of the year is complete without us throwing around a few goals and discussing our opposite-of-a-bucket list?
Some call it their F*** It List because it’s proudly owning your preferences that fly in the face of things other people prize.
I think it’s an affirmation of self awareness and being true to oneself, that while the majority claim some common life goals, you proudly declare
“Not for this little duck. I’ll be thrilled to kick the bucket decades from now, having never partaken!”
Here’s my top 10 No, thank you Sir, experiences.
What are yours?
1. Illicit Drugs
Never wanted to be the bozo who would definitely get super sick, have a panic attack, jump off something or just wake up dead. Life is for living consciously. Besides I can feel dissociated and trippy (and it’s horrible BTW) just by having a little panic over some small daily thing if I let myself.
Pay for the opportunity? I’ll skip.
2. Bungee Jumping
Looks like a great way to dislocate everything while being terrified. FFS.
Who even thought of it?
3. Roller Coasters
When you’re a fairly anxious human you basically live on an emotional roller coaster. Why leave the house?
4. Swimming with sharks
I mean, seriously?
I do not want to see their nasty faces. I imagine they feel the same way about me.
5. Watching horror movies
Just being a psychologist is enough.
6. Ice baths
While some swear by it, I suspect there are others of us for whom ice baths may be contraindicated. Enjoy. I’ll go for a coffee and see you after.
7. Going fast
I like going slow. Judge me.
8. Finishing books or movies that are low quality or bore me senseless.
Life’s too short. My time and attention are my most precious assets.
9. The Next Big Thing
The internet is so full of pitches, sales algorithms and false promises from pretend experts that it’s hard to believe anything. I’m suspicious of anyone who tries too hard to sell me anything. Shh and let me decide.
10. Small Talk
I’m so here for the big talk. My eyes and ears light up when someone starts talking about anything they truly care about, their flow, their challenges, what lights them up or what scares them. I reckon the big talk connects, the small talk distances.
I’d be super interested in your Bucket List, or your Inverse Bucket List. What special things do you want to do in the time you have? What do you really never want to do, ever that many people prize? Makes for some interesting thinking…
Love to you,
I wrote this today, listening to one of my many all time favourite tunes. Enjoy.
Omg, I knew I missed reading one of your pieces. But now I'm right up to date.
There are a couple of listings of yours that I personally find very appealing but most of them I'm in total agreement with.
Ice baths - the very idea makes me want to scream loudly.
8, 9 & 10 go without saying. Super cringe.
This has all really got me thinking. x
