Comfort. For me it’s coffee and croissants, strawberry jam and a piccolo coffee. Two or three piccolo coffees, maybe with a chaser of strong tea.
Tucking myself away to write is usually intensely comforting, as is escaping into a really good book, not just any book, it has to engage.
Patting a dog at the end of a day, cuddling their warm bods is so soothing. Family chatting around the kitchen bench.
What works for you? What comforts you?
I mentioned that writing usually comforts me, but not always. Sometimes I get caught up in judging the work and myself instead of enjoying it. It’s no big deal, part of the process, but not a comforting part.
I was considering how comfort is probably the thing we humans seek most in our lives in so many forms - love-comfort, food-comfort, emotional comfort, physical comfort, sleep-comfort - all the comforts, in all the ways.
Then I thought, the other thing many of us constantly seek is inspiration - reasons, meanings in life, creative outlets, connections, flow, experiences of transcendent enjoyment, feeling uplifted by inspiration.
Inspiration is the inhaling of goodness for our souls.
Comfort is the feeling of exhalation, of relaxing into our true nature and releasing unwanted tensions.
We need both, and each facilitates the other. Without some comfort and inspiration, how well can we breathe?
Please share your comforts with me in a message or the comments, because your comforts might give somebody else a good idea that would help them.
Please also share what’s inspiring you right now, or some other powerful time you recall of being uplifted by something, because we all need precious inspiration everyday.
Love to you,
