Hollywood has a helluva lot to answer for when it comes to portrayals of sex and love — agreed — and when it comes to abuse and poor mental health within the industry.
You also make a valid point in regard to forgiveness. It is a vastly under-rated life-skill. I think it’s because it’s a process that can be difficult and takes such maturity and persistence to carry out, forgiveness is seldom recognized as a vital relationship skill. It is however an essential skill in every relationship because there simply aren’t any human relationships that won’t require forgiveness from us at some point.
Forgiveness requires courage — to put ourselves out there and give kindness and compassion BEFORE we completely want to, trusting that in the process we will let go the burden of anger and heal together.
Resentment kills relationships slowly, painfully over time. Forgiveness, or attempts at it, however faltering and imperfect, are courageous because they are risky. However they keep the relationship ball in play so there’s still a chance of winning together, after the difficult time passes.
